Cryssi island is one of the 81 uninhabited islands of Crete. It is better known as "Gaidouronisi" (the donkey island). The residents of Ierapetra call it "the Island" as their relationship with it is special.
The island is 8 nautical miles south of the southernmost city of Europe, Ierapetra. The coastline of the island is surrounded by the Libyan Sea in the Mediterranean.
49 species of fossils are found on the island. A big number of them live today to the sea area around the island in large populations. As a result there is a flooding of the northern coast with huge number of shells which are one of the special characteristic of the island.
There is a small tavern on the island. You can buy food from the boats too or carry with you dry food.
